We booked one room for us, and another one, a few doors away, for our 23 year old son. Our rooms were exceptionally small, with no wardrobe (just a short wall-mounted cupboard with a hanging rail) I wanted to hang 3 long dresses, and the only way to store them was to drape them over the bedside cabinet, which was not ideal. Given the size of the room, we appreciated that there was no room for a proper full height wardrobe, but a few hanging hooks on the wall would help for coats/longer clothes, etc. The beds in both rooms were VERY hard. I can sleep on any bed, and so can our son. My husband has back problems, so it was not surprising that he got hardly any sleep at all for the first two nights. More surprising is that neither did I, or our son. We mentioned this at Reception and they placed 2 (thin fabric) mattress toppers on our bed, which meant that I slept reasonably well. But my poor husband had a terrible night EVERY night, which obviously impacted on his enjoyment of the trip. This was such a pity, but the management did try to help. I think they need to either get better quality, medium-hard mattresses, or at least get thick foam mattress toppers. The room was nicely decorated. We appreciated the free toiletries. Also the well stocked (and reasonably priced) mini-bar. The breakfast room was lovely, with good views. The breakfast was excellent. We were pleased that there was a lift. The rooftop terrace had fabulous views, and if the weather had been better we would have taken our breakfast there, but it was a little too cold and/or wet. The location was excellent - 5 minutes walk from The Hippodrome, The Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern and the T1 tram stop (the route used most by tourists). 10 minutes walk to Gulhane Park, the Archaeology Museums and Topkapi Palace, 15 minutes walk to the Grand Bazaar, the Egyptian (Spice) Bazaar, and Sirkeci Metro. The location could not be better.

The staff were exceptionally friendly, even with the language barrier. To be honest, we were out 90% of the time but the interaction we did have, they were nice. The facilities were clean enough, not high end but we expected that as we went for the middle range hotel. The room was on the small side, however, location made up for how the hotel was. In istanbul you're barely in your hotel so as long as it's clean and you have friendly staff then you're good to go with this hotel. I definitely recommend it. Location is spot on, right next to the big two mosques, shops, grand bazaar etc.

Absolutely a wonderful stay at the Aldem Hotel. The receptionist made our stay beyond pleasant and gave us great tips during our stay. Upgraded our room so that allowed us to stay an entire week instead of the one night we had originally booked. Can not say enough about the helpfulness and professionalism of the the entire staff. The free breakfast was amazing! The rooms were cleaned and the sheets were changed daily. I will definitely stay here when I return to Istanbul. Also, the view from the terrace at night is amazing. It just gets a little cold in the winter.

Excellent location for all major sites and tram stop. Really near restaurants. Warm, clean, had a fridge, slippers, toiletries, free WiFi, arranged reliable taxi transfer, even got local restaurant to come and collect us to take us there as arrived late and needed quick dinner. Fantastic views from roof, could leave cases on check out day. Lift to all but top floor. Change of towels which wasn't expecting, beds made each day. Late check out. Tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer. Great value for money, helpful staff.
